Advanced Brain Imaging Helps Guide Surgical Treatment for Trigeminal Neuralgia
Topical Workshop
This workshop will delve into the role of advanced brain imaging techniques in the study of trigeminal neuralgia. We will examine and describe various imaging methods, such as diffusion tensor imaging, cortical thickness analysis, and regional brain volumetric analysis, and the application of each in trigeminal neuralgia and facial neuropathic pain research. We will also discuss how these imaging modalities can aid in guiding surgical treatment, including factors that help predict surgical outcome. The workshop will discuss both classical trigeminal neuralgia and conditions such as multiple-sclerosis associated trigeminal neuralgia and the recently described entity of single-pontine lesion trigeminal neuralgia. Additionally, we will explore how machine learning algorithms can aid in the prediction of surgical outcomes based on brain imaging data.
