We investigated vasculature and the somatosensory system with respective barriers in bilateral skin biopsies of early CPRS patients and healthy controls. Meissner corpuscles and papillary blood vessels were reduced in ipsilateral and contralateral CRPS skin. We suggest that this reflects a pre-existing condition that facilitates the development of CRPS after trauma.
