Abstract Description

Institution: University Hospital of Würzburg - Bavaria, Germany

The Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a painful disease whereupon the original injury does not correlate with the felt pain.  The diagnosis of CRPS is a diagnosis by exclusion and based on the Budapest Criteria. Until today, it is not possible to predict the course of disease based on the underlying pathomechansim.

Psychological well-being and pain are closely related to one another. Our results show, that suffering from depression already at the time of inclusion is a negative predictor for pain persistence after 12 months. Furthermore, patients suffering from kinesiophobia seem to have a negative outcome, indicating that movement is an important part in CRPS therapy.
