Abstract Description

Quantitative Sensory Testing (QST) is an established method to assess somatosensory integrity of peripheral and central pathways. It has contributed crucially to the understanding of sensory signs and symptoms in neuropathic disease. Moreover, it has offered the opportunity to stratify patients according to their sensory profile and thus provides mechanistic insights into a variety of painless and painful neuropathies. However, with regard to clinical routine as well as large clinical trials, feasibility is limited due to high expenditures of time and costs. Thus, a simple bedside-QST battery was recently developed showing good agreement as compared to laboratory-QST. The proposed presentation, aims to provide an alternative option of assessing sensory function as well as options to stratify patients according to their sensory phenotype. Thereby, an option to implement sensory testing within clinical routine and large clinal trials will be presented.
